HANOVERIAN GOLD SET TO IMPRESS
The Hanoverian dynasty has provided us with an exceptional series of gold coins that have gone on to inspire The Rectory Collection, a triumph of artistry and craftsmanship.
The collection includes highlights from at least four of the six reigns, those of George II proving the most sought after here.
The star lots begin with an extremely fine and rare George II (1727-1760) Guinea, dating to 1745 and estimated at £4,000-5,000. A George II Half-Guinea, of 1759, comes in good extremely fine condition with reflective fields and carries hopes of £2,000-3,000.
The leading coin from George III (1760-1820) here is a pre-1816 Guinea, dated to 1792 and featuring the fifth bust of the king. Lustrous, and in good extremely fine condition, this scarce example has a guide of £1,500-2,000.
A Quarter-Guinea of George I (1714-1727), dated to 1718, is also lustrous and in good extremely fine, and is estimated at £500-£600, while a Sovereign from Victoria (1837-1901), dated to 1864, is in similar condition, with expectations of £700-900.
