Engraved coins, CORNWALL, Lanlivery, a Georgian Halfpenny, planed flat, one side engraved (John Treleaven Born Febry. 16 1782), the other side engraved with a compass, 8.73g. Very fine £20-£30
Mac McCarthy Collection.
John Treleaven, son of Mordecai and Grace Treleaven, was christened at Lanlivery on 21 July 1782. His uncle, or cousin of the same name, became a blacksmith at Plymouth Dockyard on 29 August 1777; he was described as “aged 24, of pale complexion 5 ft 6½ inches tall, cut on little finger left hand and a good workman, having served his apprenticeship at Lanlivery”. The compass connection likely relates to him and his trade
