England, Pictorial Jetons, c. 1295-1330, Edward II, single lion passant left within tressure, rev. ornate short floriate cross, quatrefoil in centre, 2.18g (Berry type 5E); Edward III, shield with lion rampant within tressure, ms and crowns in border, rev. ornate lozenge cross, lions in angles, 1.50g/12h (Mitchiner 970) [2]. Because of the letters M on the obverse, the second Jeton is sometimes attributed to Mathilda of Gelderland, Edward III’s step-granddaughter. The vendor’s ticket describes it as a wardrobe counter.
