Create new listDeanston Cotton Mill was built in 1785 by John Buchanan of Carston, near Glasgow, utilising water from the nearby River Teith to power its machinery. However by 1794, John’s younger brother Archibald, installed as manager, was having difficulty maintaining the labour force which forced the sale of the business. Under various owners, it continued in business until 1965. It is now the premises of Deanston Distillery

Coin and countermark very fine, the latter modern (c. 1930) and not known as a contemporary original £1,200-£1,500
