Found near Ogbourne St Andrew, Wiltshire in 2014 (EMC 2014.0319); DNW Auction 157, 20 February 2019, lot 183
The drapery seen depicted here is quite anomalous within the coinage of Burgred. One can find closer parallels within the London coinage of his Mercian predecessor Offa (cf. Chick 53-55). MacKay’s H1 is comprised of coins with quite varied obverse styles, and this variation probably reflects its early and experimental character.
