Kings of Mercia, Burgred, Penny, Phase IIb [V3/A], struck by the moneyer Beagstan, draped and diademed bust right, contained within double inner-circle, +bvrgred rex– around, starting behind the king’s head, rev. mon / +bwagzta / eta, the upper and lower lines housed within closed lunettes, pellets 3/1/3/3, 1.18g/3h (MacKay V3.1, same obv. die [this specimen not recorded]; N 423; S 941B). Small striking crack at 3 o’clock, otherwise better than very fine, rich grey tone, rare £500-£700
