A contemporary Clerk’s copy manuscript report of the victory at Abu Klea, on official paper, dated Korti 22 Jan 1885, ‘Genl. Sir Herbert Stewart had a most successful fight on 17th inst with about 10,000 of the Mahdi’s Forces, near the Wells of Abu-Klear, which are about 23 miles N.W. of Metammeh & Omdurman, which place had recently fallen into the Mahdi’s power. The enemy charged repeatedly home on Sir H. Stewart’s Force formed into square and were repulsed with heavy loss, not...
