The Uniform Coinage of India, East India Company, Victoria, original silver Proof Rupee, 1840, type I [F/VI], Calcutta, bust left, lock of hair on front riband, diagonal ridge on rear riband, no initials on truncation, victoria queen continuous, rev. one rupee, yek rupiya surrounded by laurel wreath with 34 berries, east india company around, date below in small numerals with stop to right, crescent privy mark, edge grained, 11.71g/12h (Prid. 55 [Sale, lot 28, this coin]; SW 2.18; KM. 457.10; cf. Fore I, 599). A little light die rust on neck, otherwise brilliant and virtually as struck with sharp rims, even light grey tone, very rare £1,200-£1,500
